A weekend ago Brent and I headed to his hometown of Virginia Beach to explore the city! First up was the aquarium to see some of the new exhibits since the last time we’d been there. I loved seeing the sea turtles and walking through the outdoor adventure area, which I unfortunately didn’t get any pictures of! But they have a TON of high ropes courses weaving in and out of the tall pine trees between the two buildings of the aquarium. I am extremely afraid of heights, and seeing it all brought me back to a few years ago when I did the “easy” high ropes course at the Whitewater Center in Charlotte. From the ground I remember thinking, okay it’s not too high. But once I was locked in to the lines and halfway up the dangling rope to get to the first platform, I was sweating buckets and shaking. I had to keep going though because there were people behind me already!
Other than the aquarium, we mostly did a lot of eating and tasting! A few places that we stopped at were Green Flash, which is apparently a pretty big craft brewing company and they have a distribution center in Virginia Beach. They had a ton of beers on draft and the place was absolutely massive! All of the craft breweries I’ve been too are typically small, with just a little bit of outdoor seating space. Not Green Flash. It was a huge building with an outdoor space bigger than the size of my future dream yard!
We also stopped at Sugar Shack Donuts and had a sugar rush before kayaking out on the bay through Tula Adventure Sports. The last time I went kayaking I wore capri leggings and forgot to wear sunscreen, so I ended up with the worst (and most embarrassing) sun burn just on my shins! So this time I was smart and wore shorts and lathered up on the sunscreen. Thankfully, I didn’t get burned, but I did get a head-start on my chaco tan (no pictures of that yet!). We also managed to squeeze in a trip to REI, where I made Brent try on his first ever pair of chacos and had a proud moment when he said they were “actually comfortable.”
We stopped at Taste to get sandwiches to eat for dinner on the beach, but got distracted by the gelato while we were there. So naturally, we had our dessert first! Brent indulged me and let me get my favorite mint chocolate chip for us to share. :)
Once we got home Sunday we realized we were back in time to still go to polo at King Family Vineyards! During the summer on Sundays the vineyard hosts polo matches, so we packed up our snacks and headed out to enjoy the most beautiful weather while sipping a bottle of Crosé, our favorite wine there.
I hope you all had a wonderful weekend, too, and were able to enjoy the beautiful weather!
